Baptiste Mathus

I’m an engineering manager at CloudBees, based in Toulouse, France. I joined in August 2016 as a software developer, and decided to change career path and become a manager in May 2019.

I barely code anymore: hands-on as a manager, hands-off on the code. I work on staying relevant, keeping a genuine curiosity and enough context to ask questions. I still open pull requests, but for docs or small stuff on the side, so the team can focus on the real technical work.

Most of what I’ve worked on is developer tooling: build systems, continuous integration, Jenkins. The boring stuff nobody notices until it breaks.

This blog started in 2004, in French first, mostly English since. I write here mostly because writing helps me get things out of my head and think further. The pace has been way too low for my taste for years, and I keep trying to fix that :-)

I’m always happy to get counter-opinions. My email is below.
